Role Description

Associate Director in the Energy Systems Transformation group work closely with energy-related clients to design and implement complex, transformation programs in a rapidly changing environment. Focus areas of our consultants include Energy Systems Modernization, DER & Renewables Integration, and Risk, Security & Compliance. Within these focus areas, the Associate Director role collaborates with Directors and Managing Directors on developing new business and assisting energy-related organizations (including utilities, independent power producers, energy end-users, regulators and other organizations) and deliver successful implementation of business strategies, operating plans, technical analyses, business processes excellence, and organizational structures.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Directors and Managing Directors to develop new business in the areas of advanced T&D planning, DER interconnection impact studies, grid hardening, emergency/storm restoration as well as T&D business strategies, operating plans, business processes improvement, and organizational structures.

  • Leading workstreams that enable the assessment, and development of reliability projects/programs, T&D planning, DER interconnection impact studies, grid hardening, emergency/storm restoration as well as T&D business strategies, operating plans, business processes, and organizational structures.

  • Applying knowledge of utility planning, engineering, and operations to support the design of client deliverables.

  • Applying technical competencies in areas such as T&D engineering, planning, and operations as well as Lean process improvement and project management “on the ground” with clients.

  • Leading high-level client interviews and facilitating engagement with key project stakeholders to gather information and build support for projects.

  • Designing and building client deliverables, working closely with both Navigant and client peers.

  • Communicating solutions and recommendations to clients through reports and presentations.

  • Performing data collection & analysis and statistical & engineering/planning analyses in support of project objectives.

  • Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis in T&D trends and related areas to further support delivery.

  • Working with minimal oversight and helping to manage client relations.

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, power system engineering or a grid modernization related dicipline.

  • Direct work experience in the utility T&D will be considered in lieu of the preferred educational profile.

  • 6-10 years consulting, direct working or related originations experience within bulk electric system.

  • Strong knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Electric utility distribution engineering.

  • Distribution planning including the use of planning tools such as CYME, Synergy, etc.

  • Transmission and Distribution operations, maintenance, and emergency restoration

  • Distribution operations tools such as DMS, OMS, SCADA, etc.

  • Work management (including mobile).

  • ICS framework, work management, logistics, damage assessment.

  • Asset management including the use of AM tools.

  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills.

  • Superior interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and slide presentation software.

  • Extensive travel required.

  • Frequently communicates with clients and coworkers and must be able to share information effectively

  • Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills

  • Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects in sometimes high-pressure situations simultaneously

  • Self-motivator with ability to work independently

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate work activities of others

  • Frequently travels by airplane, train or car as necessary to perform work at another location
