Mabee Clinic Optometric Assistant in MITCHELL, South Dakota

A new optometrist has joined our practice and we are looking to add another optometric assistant to our team.Position Summary:Optometric Assistant with cross training for receptionist, billing office, and optical duties.Role Qualifications:High School Diploma or GEDExcellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Previous experience inmedical office helpful, but not required. Computer skills helpful.Experience using electronic health records beneficial.The right person must possess the ability to be friendly, but professional,with patients, be willing to learn new techniques and procedures, andbe able to multi-task.Must be able to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality.Patient Services:Oversee daily exam room scheduling to ensure maximum exam room utilization.Escort patients into exam rooms and perform initial part of exam per doctor's instructions, including Patient History, Visual Acuity, Dilation, and pretesting.As instructed, perform other diagnostic tests such as visual fields, auto-refraction, tonometry, fundus photos, and Optical Coherence Tomography.Monitor patient flow by directing doctor to the next patient, overseeing doctor's schedules, checking waiting room to ensure that all patients have checked in and are not kept waiting an unreasonable length of time.Verify corrective lens prescriptions by using lensometer.Assist in screening patient phone calls or walk-ins and answering patient questions.Record, preload, and/or scan medical information in the Electronic Health Record.Monitor, order, and restock inventory of contact lenses.Dispense contact lenses and instruct patients in the care and use of contact lenses.Monitor inventory of medical forms and patient education materials and reorder from appropriate sources.Monitor and restock inventory of medical supplies and samples in exam rooms, ensure rooms are clean, organized and stocked.Ensure exam room equipment, lights, etc. are in proper working order.Review invoices for price and receipt of ordered materials. File receipts in proper order.Send monthly recall cards for eye exams.File patient charts.Cross train in other areas of the office such as receptionist, assisting in optical, and assisting in insurance and billing office.Accept and perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Essential Skills and Experience:Time management; set prioritiesStrong customer service skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsTeam PlayerCommitment to company rulesComputer SkillsPhysical demands and work environment:While performing the job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to type, pull charts; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must be able to hear and listen, speak and respond in a moderately noisy work area. The employee must be capable of lifting or moving up to 35 pounds. The employee must have constant access to a vehicle and able to drive at various hours of the day and night. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.Work environment: The noise level in the work area is moderate.Other various duties:May be asked to go to post office occasionally.May be asked to assist in optical.Complete tasks as requested by person(s) in supervisory role.
